Oxenford Tavern
The Oxenford Tavern
The Oxenford Tavern has been revitalised through a comprehensive refurbishment that repositions the venue as a contemporary hospitality destination within the northern Gold Coast growth corridor. Responding to the underlying character of the existing structure, the design adopts a contemporary heritage aesthetic—balancing modern hospitality expectations with a material palette and detailing that acknowledges the bones of the original building.
The suburb of Oxenford traces its origins to the late nineteenth century, when the area developed around farming settlements along the Coomera River and the arrival of the South Coast railway line. Named after early settler William Oxenford, who established land in the district in 1869, the locality gradually evolved from rural holdings into a key gateway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Today, Oxenford continues to grow as a vibrant residential and entertainment precinct, supported by expanding communities and nearby tourism destinations.
Interior spaces across the venue have been reconfigured to improve flow, comfort and atmosphere, creating a series of welcoming environments suited to everyday dining, social gatherings and live sport. Layered finishes, warm lighting and carefully considered spatial planning introduce a refined yet relaxed character that aligns with the evolving identity of the surrounding community.
Within the bistro, a large-scale mural forms a focal point of the space, drawing inspiration from the history of Oxenford and the wider district. The artwork references the area’s early agricultural landscape and railway heritage, connecting the contemporary venue to the stories and character that shaped the region.
Through a considered approach to layout, materiality and narrative, C+W’s hospitality design establishes a cohesive identity for the Oxenford Tavern—bringing renewed life to a familiar local venue while reflecting the continuing growth of the community around it.
