The Breakfast Creek Hotel - Stage One

The Breakfast Creek Hotel - Stage One

A Brisbane icon on the banks of Breakfast Creek, the heritage-listed Breakfast Creek Hotel was originally built in 1889–1890 and remains one of the city’s most enduring pub destinations. Stage One of Cayas + Ward’s multi-stage revitalisation brings key experiences back to life while carefully respecting the venue’s historic fabric and reputation.

The Spanish Garden Restaurant has been fully refurbished and reawakened as a true steakhouse destination—now comfortably air-conditioned throughout and anchored by custom dry-aging cabinets that put craft and theatre back on display. In the beer garden, a brand-new pizza kitchen has been introduced, engineered for serious service capacity—able to deliver more than a dozen pizzas every two minutes—supporting peak trade without compromising quality. Stage One also includes a complete strip-out and rebuild of the gaming room, delivering a contemporary, high-performing environment aligned with today’s operational and guest expectations, with improved planning, finishes, lighting and back-of-house functionality to support long-term turnover.

Importantly, this first phase establishes the spatial logic and services pathways for what comes next—ensuring the venue can keep trading as upgrades roll out. Stage One is the first of three stages, setting the design foundations for further refurbishments and extensions across the broader venue over the coming years—an evolution that protects what people love about “The Brekky Creek” while confidently preparing it for its next chapter.
